This meltdown is really, REALLY on all of our minds, isn't it? I turn my
head for a day or two and what happens?! I don't think I have ever seen
so many important posts, pearls, in close proximity.
No doubt about it, from the global e-world to the real world of tiny
Anguilla, everyone is shaken. In this post ("The International Dream")...
... I talked about a "town hall" (? "island hall") meeting in Anguilla.
The room was full -- I just assumed these types of meetings always were.
Nope.
I ran into one of the ministers at the grocery store the other day. He
remembered me from a previous interview and we chatted about that
meeting about the crisis. It turns out that these kinds of events
usually greet almost-empty rooms. He was surprised to see a packed hall.
So this is on everyone's mind, including an island that is fairly
recession-proof (*high-end tourism) and with a conservative banking
industry that is liquid and insular
People all over the world are VERY worried.
And we're having a town hall meeting, it feels like to me, in this
thread. But...
The striking difference here, compared to anywhere else you may read or
watch, is the calm and resolve to meet it head-on, to keep tortoising it
straight ahead. Inspiring thread, indeed!
Just a few of the important posts here...

"How are companies and individuals going to afford to pay decent money

adsense ads?"
Good question. At first glance, one would expect ad revenues to drop,
squeezed by fewer companies, who are only willing to pay less, and
perhaps Google looking to squeeze on the percent it keeps. On the other
hand, Claude and Suzanne bring up a very good point...
Expect more stay-at-home (*free) entertainment, including surfing. That
means more visitors, all-around. That could very well mean more people
clicking ads, off-setting the lower CPC. And others talk about "Record
number of visitors and
adsense income" -- interesting (but too early to
really conclude this is due to the economy, as Margaret points out).
In any event, diversification of monetization is more important than
ever. Alternative ad models like InfoLinks or Kontera. Adding
monetization models that will work in this environment -- put yourself
in your visitor's mindset.
"Affiliate income may drop" -- yup, I agree. Watch out -- the less
people need a product, the less they're going to buy it during these
hard times.

I'd love to hear your comments about what SBI! means to you in today's

Today I checked my
adsense earnings and discovered that TODAY, my
all-time earnings for Google

I have to admit, when I saw the six-digit number for the first time, I
found myself looking back 5 1/2 years ago to when I first signed up for

I just wasn't able to withdraw the funds from my account.
Thank goodness I didn't give up in the early stages. If I did I never
would have been able to cash in for all the hours I invested in my
online business when I was just getting started.
